Erin McElhone (she/they), originally from Dallas, is a 2018 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She received her BFA from Adelphi University in May 2022 with a minor in business. Erin is a performer, arts administrator, and freelance choreographer currently based in Brooklyn, New York.
Erin has performed repertory works by notable choreographers including Martha Graham, Mark Morris, Paul Taylor, Takehiro Ueyama, Peter Chu, Charles Anderson, and Phil Orsano. Erin has collaborated on the creation of new work with Larry Keigwin, Rasta Thomas, Manuel Vignoulle, and Sarah Matzke. She was a part of various faculty and student dances, productions, and films while at Adelphi University. Erin is also a founding member and collaborator of Meat Market Productions, a Dallas-based dance theater company that was started at Adelphi University by Marlee Fleisher.
Erin's choreography has been presented in New York at the 2020 NYU Choreographic Seminar, Adelphi University Student Showcase, Arts on Site, Dixon Place, and the Balance Arts Center. Erin's work was also included in the Intern Showcase at Jacob's Pillow in 2022. In 2021, at Adelphi's Scholarship & Creative Works Conference, Erin received the highest honor award for their solo work: “not sexy", that same year Erin was awarded a research grant by the Adelphi Honors College to begin their undergraduate senior thesis. Their thesis, "Der Lauf der Dinge," was presented at Adelphi's 2022 Scholarship & Creative Works Conferences and once again they were awarded the highest honor.
Erin has taken on many different roles at different non-profits throughout the years. Currently, Erin balances a full-time job with the Education Department at Gibney, part-time work for Madison Hicks with Moving Forward Dallas, one-on-one mentoring sessions, production and individual support for performing artists, and their work as a choreographer and freelance dancer.
In the past, Erin has worked for The School at Jacob's Pillow, The Dallas Arts District, Bombshell Dance Project, Sidra Bell Dance New York, Adelphi's Performing Arts Center and Dance Department, Dallas Independent School District Summer Dance Intensive, Dallas Summer Musicals, Grant Jacoby, Dual Rivet, Megan Williams Dance Projects, and skewl (formerly freeskewl).
More than anything Erin wants to make dance happen.
